LWE November 2011 Newsletter

Hi everybody out there!  It’s me again---and boy have I got a lot to tell you in this newsletter for Nov. 2011!

First of all, we have been promoting the fact that ‘Grandpa’s Neighbors’ from Bennington Ok. and ‘Jerry Bennett’ from Nashville Tn. were coming to the Nov. 12th praise fest and they certainly did.  Not only did they come, but they left quite a imprint on the praise fest as well.

Jerry is a country gospel singer/songwriter who has been with us before and he always livens up the church.  He has a way of doing that and it’s contagious for sure.  He is really a nice man to boot.  We were blessed to have him stay with us while he was here.  He also did a worship concert on Sunday morning at our church (Crossroads Presbyterian in Desert).  They really loved it.  I had people come up and thank me for booking him.  Our little church is very receptive to singers coming in and doing these concerts and I feel so thankful to be able to offer this to the singers as a way to re-coop some of their traveling expenses.  These singers come from all over and receive no compensation from our ministry other that whatever they can make from selling their CD’s (if they have any).

Anyway, then came ‘Grandpa’s Neighbor’s’ who are a mother/daughter bluegrass group.  Let me tell you—these are special ladies.  So gracious and polite.  Mom and Dad have done well in raising this family.  They are so sweet—just like their voices and the music they play.  You just have to be there to realize the blessing one gets from being in the same room with them.  What they do sounds so pure and untouched by the outside world.  I wouldn’t change a thing about them.  I hope they always remain the wonderful mother-daughter group that they are.

At one point in the program, the music track someone was singing to stopped.  It just so happened that Jerry knew the song.  There is an old, old piano that hasn’t been played in maybe 30-or more years.  He ran over and lifted the key cover and started playing the song so the singers could finish.  When he did, Abigail from ‘Grandpa’s Neighbor’s’ jumped up and ran over to grab her big bass and began playing as well.  Then Eugene Cox (another bluegrass singer/songwriter) who was there got his guitar as well as Ken Cason—before you know it, the live music was better than the track and the audience chimed in with their voices.  People were clapping to the beat--It truly was a special moment in the history of the praise fests.  At intermission, Jerry brought in a tuning tool and proceeded to tune the piano.  At a request he played ‘I’ll Fly Away’ and sang.  I’m tellin’ you that place was rockin’.  See--you guys who don’t come?, what you’re missing?!!

We all went to dinner afterwards; something we all do every month.  All in all, it was a very enjoyable and uplifting event.  We had quite a few newcomers this time and I sure hope they come back.  That little church probably had around 60 or more people in it—more than ever before.

Please don’t misunderstand—the other singers (Anne and Ken Cason—Ron Cheney—Eugene Cox) were fantastic as usual.  But the ones I told the story about had out of the ordinary things happen concerning them.  The singers we have coming every month are special in their own rite and I would never take that away from them.  They have their own special qualities and we all have one thing in common—we sing to the LORD and we let you—the audience—hear and see.  We all bring a message with us to offer inspiration, encouragement and hope to someone out there who may need it.  This is what we do and we love it.

Our next show will be at Crossroads (our home church).  It will be totally Christmas and it’s on Dec.10th from 5pm till 8.  Our featured artist will be Jeff Mew who is an Elvis Tribute Artist.  Come and join us as we celebrate the coming of the Savior’s birth.  We always have all kinds of Christmas music—Christian as well as secular.  It’s sure to be special.

As a special treat, we have put together a commemorative CD—this is the 2nd annual one for the people coming.  Everyone there will receive one.  This is our gift to those supporting our ministry by attending.  These are hand-picked singers (some songwriters) who gave their time and talent to make this CD a reality.  My sincere thanks to all who participated in this project.  You know who you are you wonderful people.  You in the audience will have to come to find out who they are.(hee-hee)

I know I’m windy but anyone who knows me understands that this is the way I am.  This is me.  Blessings to you all till next time---

In His Service,
Linda
